There are many lens designs available depending on your unique visual needs. What follows is a brief overview of some of the lenses. For more detailed information, please contact a Sieff Optometrist.
Bifocal Lenses
Bifocal lenses will help you to enjoy clear vision at two points of focus:
-
Distance – such as driving a vehicle or watching television
-
Near – such as reading or other close-up work
On your bifocal lens a small portion is reserved for your near-vision correction and the rest of the lens is for distance correction.
All you have to do is drop your eyes down to read, and lift your eyes up for distant objects. With time, you will notice that your eyes naturally seek out the appropriate portion of the lens.
Multifocal Lenses
Multifocals help you to focus at different distances through the same lens and generally have three points of focus:
-
Distance – such as driving a vehicle or watching television
-
Intermediate – such as working on computer
-
Near – such as reading or other close-up work
A small portion at the bottom of the lens is reserved for your near-vision correction, a small portion at the top is for distance correction, and the zone in between is designed to allow your eye to move smoothly between distance and near.
It may take 2 to 3 weeks for your eyes to get used to your new multifocals. And with time you’ll notice that your eyes naturally
seek out the appropriate portion of the lens. You may also find
that the very sides of the lenses show some distortion. This is normal and unavoidable with this type of complex lens. After a short time your eyes will become accustomed to this and you will no longer notice it.
